Chicago Cubs, 1991: Andre Dawson Errupts

On July 23, 1991, Chicago Cub Andre Dawson gets thrown out of the game against the Cincinnati Reds for arguing with home plate umpire Joe West. Dawson then starts tossing equipment onto the field from the dugout. Later, Reds’ reliever Rob Dibble throws at the legs of Chicago baserunner Doug Dascenzo. “A wild night at Wrigley Field.”

– I love how soft-spoken The Hawk is during the interview… hard to believe he was throwing bats onto the field just a bit earlier… xD
LOL @ people supporting a grown man crying about a baseball game.
@autographhound2468 You think umpires should throw down with managers, coaches and players?
@butcherboy2008 I hate how he always challenges umpires and players and when they try to get a piece of him he walks away like a little bitch.
@butcherboy2008 ONE OF THE WORST.
I saw this as it happened! I remember it like it was yesterday! I laughed so hard I farted.
@TheGameGuysBlog I remember watching the game and in the other my dad was watching the Reds TV feed. He went nuts when Dawson did, then didn’t say a thing when Dibble threw at Dascenzo! Definitely one of the more memorable moments from watching the Cubs as a kid!
Reds should have won that game by forfeit!
oh hell! i remember this game! i actually watch this one. boy this brings back some memories. i can’t believe this was twenty years ago.
LMAO at Dibble. God I miss the days when we didnt have a bunch of fucking boyscouts playing baseball.
@CoachFabolous11 That dude was nuts
Lou was looking a little skinnier there…
ROB DIBBLE IZ DA MOST DIRTIEST PLAYER IN BASEBALL HISTORY SMH!!!
@NakedReporta Cut it out!
im not sure about joe west but i know i wouldnt want any part if andre dawson.
@charlestonchewy Yeah but besides his hair, he still looks the same. He’s aging well
Ron Karkovice might be the ugliest dude in baseball…just sayin’
oh no, the twins lost to detroit…..i think they’ll recover
pitch was low, outside and the call was a very late srike 3. they should have fined joe blow west too. he created the incident
@blakesavage123 I remember that commercial on WGN,
@mrzonk23 He’s still with WGN. He has like 3 strands of hair left on top of his head.
Even though Yankees fans are more horrible than Red Sox fans, you Cubs fans are all over them just because of one idiot… I admit, i’m from Massachusetts, and the accent is pretty ridiculous, not saying that all accents are pretty ridiculous when you think about it… but what’s the deal seeing Cubs and Red Sox fans fighting, it sort’ve makes me sad, and I can imagine Yankees and Cardinals fans laughing about it somewhere… I agree winning isn’t everything, but to Yankees fans it is.
@NakedReporta Cut…It…Out…
lol@ ron dibble. he’s always been retarded
When I hit one out of Wrigley, I hit it over a Tru-Link fence.
Cubs fans=loyal fans
Sox fans=Bandwagon fans
Il pay for it when they go to a ws cuz it aint happening lol..lol! Cubs suck!
Die hard….u know how many ppl died wishing they seen they win a ws..lol fuken idiots. Cubs suck!
i’m a die hard cubs fan and people have been criticizing me saying that i’m jumping ship on my team. There’s a difference between jumping ship, and refusing to buy overpriced tickets, overpriced beer, and overpriced food, to see a mediocre team that has disapointed for over a century
WHEN they go to to the world seies my is going to pay for me and my to go
me and my uncle are BIG cub fans and WHEN they go ti the world series my dad is going to pay for us to go
Someday we’ll go all the way
Born in 1996 saw my first homerun when I was 3 with Sosa in 1999 and I was born a Cubs fan
@Clucktheband I went to my first Yankees game when I was 2 years old and grew up an hour away from NYC. I have always been a fan ever since then. Of course everybody knows how many World Series the Yanks have won, but I admire you guys and I like your comment. I wish I could be a part of something like you described. Even though I’m a Yankees fan, I still hope that at some point in my life, I’ll get to witness the Cubs go all the way. Who knows why, but I hope I do!
@zbac1 we don’t hate, we love….we love the Cubs because you have nothing better to do than hate on us for losing. We don’t jump ship or jump on bandwagons, we have faith. I get upset when we lose but after game I can watch, I always sing this song. This “far weather fan” has never set foot in Wrigley Field but I still have love for them. You can say anything you want to degrade our heroes, you won’t break our faith. From this loser, I wish you the best….
We have faith that we’ll win and until we win…we won’t jump ship. It’s not about being the best. It’s about being the best you can be. That’s what makes the Cubs so great and that is what makes Cub Fans so great…
Bleeding Cubbie Blue since 1982!!!!!! Pearl Jam fiend since 1991!!!!
Life is good…..=)
Being a Cubs fan is not about not winning a world series in 102 years. It’s so much more than that. It’s about the loyalty we fans have with our team. Its about knowing that someday it will happen because growing in th suburbs of Chicago, I’ve realized that the history of Chicago and the Cubs is unlike any other city in the world. There’s a reason why there’s still 35000 fans that fill up Wrigley every game. Once you’re born a Cubs fan you’ll be a Cubs fan for life. Someday we’ll go all the way
Go cubbies!!! One day we’ll win!!! Please be in my lifetime lol waiting for the cubs to win is like waiting for the second coming of Jesus. Lol jk Go Cubs!!!
@JalapenoPaul713 well said
Cubs= Life
The Lovable Losers. I am willing to bet that if the day ever comes the Cubs win The World Series, which is very unlikely, they lose at least one third of their fan base. People just want to be around when they end the longest Championship drought in baseball. I have been to many games in every sport and have been around a long time and Cubs fans are the biggest fair weather fans I have ever met. Now let the hate responses begin, because thats what Cubs fans do.
Cubs fan for life and nothing else feels better then the scents and air of wrigley on a nice summer day, i would never trade this fanship for anything
You never stop being a Cubs fan because if you do you never really were.
@BadViolinPlayer I was trying to get the point across that his comment was very dumb. Chicago has had a lot of excitement in the past couple years. I’m a Chi fan all day, except the Sox but obviously i know what has happened recently to the rest of their teams
@frostbitten22 the Hawks won last year and the Bears were a game from the Superbowl. Never mind that the bulls second season is ON! Thirdly, even though I’m a Cubbie for life the Sux (sox) won in 2005.
@loveboatcaptain same here man, Cubs for life!
Even if the cubs never win another game EVER, i will be a cubs fan FOR LIFE!
@LucifersCockMeat Yeah being a chicago fan sucks. I mean the Hawks haven’t won the Stanley Cup in forever. The Bulls aren’t one of the most exciting teams in the NBA to watch. The Bears didn’t win the division last year.
I got nothing for the cubs haha
But I will agree with you on the beer
